The Pulse of Sørvågen

Dynamic panorama of the Sørvågen waterfall in Lofoten captured during a private photo expedition in September 2025 by Jan Smid Master QEP.

This view of the cascades in Sørvågen is one of the most rhythmic scenes in the archipelago. I engineered this specific panorama during a private photo expedition in September 2025, returning once again to a location that has become a fundamental cornerstone of my Arctic workflow.

Sørvågen is a place I visit regularly—it is a personal favorite where the landscape demands technical discipline. The way the water carves through the dark, ancient rock requires more than just a slow shutter release; it requires a precise understanding of flow and compositional layering. Mastering this scene is about finding order within the chaos of the falling water.

While this frame was the focus of a bespoke private session, we will return to these falls to push the technical boundaries even further during our upcoming group expeditions. Whether we are chasing the golden hour of the Lofoten Midnight Sun 2026 or navigating the frozen, brutal beauty of the Lofoten Winter 2027, Sørvågen remains a mandatory stop for anyone serious about high-end landscape photography.
