Last Light in the Kyrenia Mountains

Sunset in the Kyrenia Mountains in Northern Cyprus photographed during Jan Smid’s Cyprus Photo Expedition in February 2026. Warm evening light breaks through storm clouds above the rugged Mediterranean mountain landscape.

This photograph was taken in the Kyrenia Mountains of Northern Cyprus during the very first evening of our Cyprus Photo Expedition in February 2026. I discovered this viewpoint during one of my earlier scouting trips across the island and immediately knew it would become one of my favourite locations in the Kyrenia range. The view opens across the rugged mountain landscape toward the Mediterranean, making it a perfect place to photograph sunset when dramatic light moves across the ridges.

This image is part of the work created during our first Cyprus Photo Expedition, which followed three private scouting expeditions across the island to discover new locations and prepare the route for photographers. After the success of the February expedition, the next Cyprus Photo Expeditions are planned for November 2026 and March 2027, continuing to explore the Kyrenia Mountains, Troodos Mountains, and the diverse landscapes of Cyprus.

Panorama compiled from total of 105 frames (5-level exposure bracketing of 17 frames in three rows, 20 antireflective frames).
