Ridge of the Five Fingers
This photograph was taken at Kantara Castle in Northern Cyprus, looking west across the rugged ridge of the Kyrenia Mountains toward the Mediterranean Sea. The historic fortress sits high above the Pentadaktylos range and offers one of the most dramatic viewpoints on the island.
I captured this scene during our first Cyprus Photo Expedition in February 2026. A powerful storm was moving across the sea between Cyprus and Turkey that evening, bringing extremely strong winds to the mountain ridge. After some searching we managed to find shelter behind a small group of trees, where we were able to photograph a beautiful sunset as the storm clouds began to break over the mountains and coastline.
This image is part of the work created during that first expedition, which followed three private scouting trips across Cyprus to discover locations and prepare the route for photographers. After the success of the February expedition, the next Cyprus Photo Expeditions are planned for November 2026 and March 2027, continuing to explore the Kyrenia Mountains, Troodos Mountains, and the island’s spectacular Mediterranean coastline.
Panorama compiled from total of 140 frames (5-level exposure bracketing of 20 frames in three rows, 40 antireflective frames).
