Namibia Desert, Dunes & Night Photo Expedition 2027
13th April – 26th April 2027
An advanced landscape & night photography expedition for photographers who want full control in extreme open environments.
We teach how to work when light is hard, space is vast and mistakes are visible — in deserts, dunes, stone forests and under some of the darkest night skies on Earth.
This is not about collecting locations.
It’s about building clear decision-making, strong minimalist compositions and reliable technique — from sunrise in Deadvlei to Milky Way arches over Spitzkoppe — taught directly on location, every day.
A Photography Workshop Built for Precision, Space & Silence
13th April – 26th April 2027
📍 Namibia | 👤 Max 8 Participants | 📸 Up to 4 Instructors incl. Jan Šmíd, Master QEP
A field-based photography expedition focused on composition, scale and decision-making in vast desert landscapes and night environments.
Namibia is one of the most honest landscapes you can photograph.
There is nowhere to hide weak composition.
No chaos to mask bad decisions.
No clutter to save an image.
This expedition is designed for photographers who want to simplify their vision, gain full control over scale and distance, and learn how to work in environments where every element matters.
We work slowly, intentionally and with purpose — choosing locations by light, wind and cloud structure, not by fixed schedules.

Who Is This Photo Expedition For? 🌍📸
Whether you’re an experienced landscape photographer or a committed enthusiast, this Namibia Desert & Night Photo Expedition is designed to significantly elevate how you see, compose and execute images in open, unforgiving terrain.
You’ll receive personal guidance from Jan Šmíd (Master QEP) and his team, while photographing some of the most visually pure landscapes on Earth — from ancient quiver trees and sculpted dunes to granite monoliths and full Milky Way arches.
This photography expedition is ideal if you want to:
✅ Create strong single images, panoramas and minimalist desert compositions
✅ Learn advanced night photography — with star tracker and without
✅ Photograph the Milky Way core and full Milky Way arch
✅ Master scale, distance and subject separation in open space
✅ Build a portfolio ready for exhibitions or large-format printing
✅ Work in a small, focused group with real 1-on-1 mentoring
Join this Namibia photo expedition and experience desert photography as a learning process, not a checklist — while taking your landscape and night work to a new level.
Many photographers ask what the real difference is between a photo workshop and a photo expedition. To make it easy, here is a clear side-by-side explanation based on how we teach in the field.
🗺️ What Will We See During the Photo Tour?
Outside the key sunrise, sunset and night sessions, we explore Namibia’s visual extremes: quiver tree forests, granite chaos fields, deep canyon edges, endless dune seas, coastal deserts and remote dark-sky locations.
We also include relaxed transitions and selected stops between major photo sessions — ensuring the expedition remains productive without burning you out.
📍 Highlights you may experience during the expedition include:
🌵 Quiver Tree Forest — iconic silhouettes, sunrise geometry, night sky compositions
🪨 Giant’s Playground — abstract granite forms, rhythm, shadow play
🏜 Fish River Canyon — Africa’s largest canyon, scale & depth at sunrise and sunset
🏜 Namib-Naukluft & Deadvlei — world-class dune light, dead camelthorn trees, minimalist icons
🌊 Walvis Bay & coastal dunes — moving sand, textures, Atlantic fog moods
🗿 Spitzkoppe — granite arches, silhouettes and prime Milky Way photography
🌌 Dark-sky locations — Milky Way core, tracked images and full Milky Way arch when geometry allows
💎 Secret add-ins — light-driven locations revealed only on the expedition
✨ …and more. We never reveal every spot up front — Namibia rewards flexibility.

Why Travel to Namibia With Jan Šmíd, Master QEP
Namibia is full of photo tours.
Most of them sell locations, transport and sunsets.
This expedition sells progress.
Many workshops are built like this:
fixed itinerary
fixed shooting spots
fixed compositions
everyone shoots the same frame
That’s comfortable — and limiting.
On this expedition:
locations are chosen by light, wind and conditions, not by schedule
scenes are broken down from zero, not copied
you learn how to read space, distance and scale in open terrain
you make your own decisions, with live correction and explanation
We don’t rush between spots to “get everything”.
We slow down where it matters.
This is not a sightseeing tour with cameras.
It’s a field-based photography expedition built to teach you how to work independently, anywhere in the world.
The goal is not one strong image from Namibia.
The goal is skills that stay with you long after the trip ends.

You don’t need to be a professional, but you should be comfortable with the basics of photography (manual exposure, focus, tripod work).
This expedition is designed to develop decision-making, composition and control, not to teach camera buttons. Absolute beginners are not the target group. -
Yes. Night photography is a core part of the expedition.
We photograph the Milky Way core, and when geometry and conditions allow, also the full Milky Way arch.
You’ll learn both tracked and untracked night photography, including blending workflows and field planning. -
April offers a rare balance of stable weather and visual variety.
Conditions are generally reliable, but unlike peak dry months, clouds still appear occasionally, adding depth and atmosphere to desert compositions. Temperatures are also ideal for long sunrise, sunset and night sessions. -
The expedition is physically accessible. Most locations require only short walks on flat or gently uneven terrain.
Optional light hikes are available, but never mandatory. The daily plan is always adapted to weather, light and group fitness. -
We stay in hand-picked luxury desert and safari lodges, all with swimming pools, allowing proper rest between demanding photo sessions.
Transport is provided by large, comfortable luxury 4×4 SUVs, designed for long distances and off-road conditions in Namibia. -
