Heart of Stone

Heart of Stone tide pool, Lofoten seascape panorama at sunset — captured on our Lofoten Photo Expedition 2023.

At low tide a hidden basin opens in the granite—polished by the sea, lined with amber kelp, and clear enough to count the stones beneath. I waited for the wind to fall and the cloud deck to thin, letting a soft pane of Arctic light slip across the fjord and ignite the autumn slopes. This wide panorama balances still water, textured rock, and a sky in slow motion—exactly the kind of patient scene we build toward in the field.

I photographed it during our Lofoten Photo Expedition, where we chase clean compositions and subtle light rather than postcard clichés. If you’d like to create images like this - seascapes, single shots & panoramas, and night work under northern skies—join one of our small-group expeditions (Lofoten, Iceland, Madeira, Dolomites). You’ll get hands-on mentoring, flexible planning around the weather, and the time to let a frame truly come together.

Panorama compiled from total of 204 frames (3-level exposure bracketing of 68 frames in three rows).
