🗺️ What Will We See During the Photo Tour?
Our photo trip doesn’t follow a rigid itinerary — and that’s by design. Instead, we adapt daily to the best possible light, color, and weather conditions, so you can capture truly breathtaking Alaska landscape photos at their peak.
Outside the key golden-hour and Aurora Borealis shoots, we explore the best of Alaska’s autumn wilderness: dramatic mountain passes, glacier-fed lakes, colorful tundra plateaus, serene alpine valleys, and hidden ridgelines with vast panoramic views. You’ll experience both world-famous landmarks and remote, off-the-beaten-path locations that most travelers never see.
We also incorporate opportunities for documentary-style landscape storytelling and relaxed sightseeing between major photo sessions, ensuring the journey is not only highly productive but also deeply memorable.
📍Highlights you may experience during the expedition include:
🏔️ Hatcher Pass – Summit Lake & April Bowl — rolling tundra, mirror tarns, rust-red fall colors, easy ridge lines for sunrise/sunset
💧 Gold Cord Lake — alpine tarn by the historic mine buildings with glassy reflections and granite slabs
🧊 Matanuska Glacier Lookouts — long-lens ice textures from MM103 and roadside pullouts; braided river patterns below
⛰️ Lion’s Head Bluff (optional hike) — ~300–350 m gain to a commanding overlook of Matanuska Glacier and its meanders
🧊 Root Glacier (edge only, self-guided) — abstract crevasse lines and meltwater channels from the safe margin (micro-spikes recommended)
🧊 Stairway Icefall vistas (Erie Mine lower trail) — towering icefall panorama from safe viewpoints above Kennecott
🏞️ Thompson Pass & Blueberry Lake — wide-open passes, tarn reflections and berry-red tundra; dramatic fast-changing weather
🧊 Worthington Glacier Viewpoints (SRS) — close views of blue seracs from official lookouts (no ice caves)
🧊 Valdez Glacier Lake — floating ice and still water for graphic sunset reflections
💦 Keystone Canyon — Bridal Veil & Horsetail Falls; silky long-exposure waterfalls among steep slate walls
🏞️ Denali Highway: Tangle Lakes & Delta River — tundra plateaus, braided channels, big-sky vistas, calm coves for pastel dusk
⛰️ Maclaren Summit (short ridge rambles) — layered mountain ranges and autumn tapestry with minimal effort
🥾 Portage Pass (optional hike) — ~240 m gain to the classic “window” view of Portage Glacier and tidewater scenery
🧊 Portage & Byron Valleys — glacier-crowned peaks, moody fog layers, and deep U-shaped troughs
🧭 Turnagain Arm – Beluga Point — sweeping seascapes, leading lines and tidal textures (bonus: potential beluga sightings)
🧊 Exit Glacier (Kenai Fjords NP) — braided-river S-curves leading the eye to glacial ice; great at sunrise and twilight
🌊 Tonsina Point & Lowell Point (Seward) — black-pebble beaches, tide pools and driftwood for minimalist long exposures
🌊 Kenai Lake & Quartz Creek — turquoise coves and wind-sheltered water perfect for aurora reflections
🍂 Peak autumn tundra everywhere — scarlet and ochre carpets across passes; telephoto-friendly layering on ridges and lake shores
✨ …and much more. We never reveal all our spots up front 😉 – some places are just too magical to spoil in advance. Trust us: this tour goes far beyond the guidebooks.

Why Photograph Lofoten in Autumn – On Expedition with Jan Šmíd 🍁✨
The Lofoten Islands are often called the hidden gem of Scandinavia — and for good reason. Towering fjords, rugged coastlines, and dramatic peaks create a dreamlike backdrop for every frame.
But what makes September in Lofoten truly magical?
🌌 Northern Lights Season Begins
Autumn starts earlier here — and with it, the sky comes alive. Thanks to Lofoten’s location far above the Arctic Circle (even further north than Iceland!), Aurora Borealis photography is not just possible — it’s likely.
🍂 Spectacular Autumn Colors
The tundra transforms into a palette of golds, reds, and oranges, making it the perfect season for landscape photography.
🌦️ Photogenic in Any Weather
Lofoten’s coastline ensures dramatic skies and moody light even when conditions shift. You’ll leave with incredible photos — come rain or shine.
🌡️ Surprisingly Mild Climate
Thanks to the Gulf Stream, autumn temperatures in Lofoten are milder than in most parts of Europe or North America — even during aurora season.
On our photo expeditions, you’ll master the art of strong visual storytelling. This video highlights frequent landscape photography mistakes — from awkward horizons to cluttered frames — and shows how we teach you to avoid them in the field. With expert guidance from Jan Šmíd (Master QEP), you’ll refine your eye for composition and elevate every shot.

How We Work: Flexible, Real-World Shooting (what about the itinerary)?
We often get asked:
“Where will we be shooting on Day 3?”
“What time is breakfast on Day 7?”
“Will we see spot X at sunset?”
Here’s our honest answer:
We don’t offer cookie-cutter travel itineraries — we run real photo expeditions.
Rather than following a fixed day-by-day plan, we design each shooting day based on the latest weather forecasts, light conditions, and local insight. This allows us to respond flexibly and make the most of every opportunity — sunrise, sunset, mist, clouds etc. Thanks to our experience and deep knowledge of Lofoten’s terrain, we always choose the best location for each moment. Our primary focus is, of course, capturing top-quality landscape and Aurora photos. However, in between the key photo sessions, we also explore the stunning sights of the Lofoten Islands. We visit iconic and lesser-known locations mentioned in the expedition introduction, combining guided sightseeing with documentary-style photography — all to give participants a truly unforgettable travel experience.
🎯 Our mission is simple:
To help every participant create the best images possible — every single day.
