Whispers of Fanal – Ancient Trees in the Mist

Captured during our Madeira Photo Expedition in May 2025, this panoramic image transports you into the magical laurel forest of Fanal. Shrouded in dense Atlantic fog, the gnarled ancient trees stand like living sculptures, their moss-covered trunks and twisted branches telling stories of centuries past.

The atmosphere here is surreal — silence broken only by the wind and drifting clouds. Shooting this scene as a panorama allowed me to emphasize both the monumental foreground tree and the mysterious silhouettes fading into the mist behind it.

For many photographers, Fanal is the heart of Madeira — a place where nature’s raw power meets timeless serenity. This photograph reflects exactly that: an eternal moment of quiet in one of the most enchanting forests in the world.
